Ashgabat national stadium, Turkmenistan (Natural & Synthetic Turf)
SIS International has completed the construction of three natural grass pitches and two synthetic pitches in the capital Ashgabat at the new national stadium in Turkmenistan.
SIS mobilised in Ashgabad in 15 days with 3 trucks of SIS equipment and installed almost 25000m3 of sand and gravel at 5 pitches in Turkmenistan. The SIS team worked day and night with temperatures often between 45-50 °C. All materials had to be arranged from abroad using Portugal, Germany, Holland and Turkey as there were limited resources and nothing available to match the SIS quality required in Turkmenistan.
The sand chosen for the project was over 800km away from site and proved to be inconsistent. All 700 trucks were tested and almost 200 were eliminated by SIS specialists. Complying with the customs and excise procedures were also key to the success of the project and proved difficult at times as SIS International Director Ilyas Kobal explains, ‘bringing some of the goods to Turkmenistan was really terrible, however through advanced planning and increased communication we were able to overcome this and deliver the project on time’.
The natural pitches following seeding will be maintained by SIS specialists for 3 months and also enabling the local ground staff to be trained. SIS International Director Ilyas Kobal also commented, ‘ SIS competed against local and international companies to win the contract, our track record on delivering projects in Turkey and Azerbaijan in the past year was crucial to our success’.
