SIS announced in Luanda on October 2nd that the four stadium pitches for the COCAN 2010 had been completed and seeded. The four stadiums in Cabinda, Benguela, Lubango and Luanda were all built by SIS crews in the past 8 weeks; the final stadium to be seeded was in Lubango.
The first pitch seeded was Cabinda in September followed by Benguela, Luanda and Lubango. The stadium pitch at Luanda, the capital of Angola was completed in late September. This stadium received the most attention from world’s media as there were concerns expressed that the stadium and the pitch would not be completed on time.
However the fears were unfounded and CAF who visited Luanda at the end of September expressed their congratulations to SIS for completing the stadium pitch on time.
All stadium pitches will have a growing in period of at least 12 weeks before the first football matches are played in early January. The pitches will have to cope with at least 7 games and 14 forty five minutes training sessions in a three week period.
SIS is confident that with the correct maintenance and management these pitches will deliver the perfect football surface for the COCAN 2010.
