Real Sociedad pitch installed and 1st game within 24 hours!
Real Sociedad beat Espanyol at the Anoeta stadium 1 nil, just twenty four hours after SIS had installed a new football pitch at the stadium. The Real Sociedad team trained on the pitch 8 hours after it was laid. U2 played in the Anoeta stadium earlier in the week and SIS were given a clear directive from the club, ‘Deliver an excellent playing surface and guarantee the game will go ahead’.
The pitch which had been in-situ for 17 years was removed in less than one day; the surface was then rotovated to a depth of 60mm to remove to improve the condition of the base, which was anaerobic.
Twenty two trucks from Germany were transported over night to the city of San Sebastian and the pitch was installed with the SIS crew in 18 hours, the pitch was then rolled to ensure the grass would not move in the game. The game was shown live on October 2nd on Sky Sports and the pitch received very positive comments.
Director of International Operations for SIS Phil Blackwell commented’ These projects are always high risk but with good planning and teamwork it is possible to deliver an excellent surface even within twenty four hours of installation’. The club and the local maintenance company gave us excellent support’.
